Blog Post 2   Addison Mathes Blog 2 Question:   How does the classroom environment influence early literacy development?   For me personally, I believe that classroom environment plays a huge role in literacy development because when I was a student between the ages of K-3rd, I would get scared to speak up whatsoever and especially if I was in a classroom enviornment where I was made to feel stupid or embarassed if I did not know a word, or if I did not do the reading from the night before or even if I had questions. I actually was very behind when it came to reading. I was always in the lowest reading group, my comprehension skills were not great, and on top of that, I had no confidence. Because of this, I started to hate the idea of reading completely and stopped trying.  Blog 1- Addison Mathes  Blog 1-AM   From reading both chapters from the e-texts, I learned that teaching literacy today is not as simple as most would think. Teaching literacy is so much more than helping students write and read. Both texts explained that literacy has changed significantly over time and that teachers have to adapt to it as well.  Literacy is more than Reading and Writing    Both chapters argued that literacy is not just about books anymore, as it was in the past. Today, it is so much more. Today, students need to understand different cultures and perspectives, as well as technology such as computers, tablets, videos, and even social media. From this, students are learning more about how to think. Something students need to understand when using technology is 1. What is the main purpose?  2.
